"Up From Slavery" is an autobiography of the life and work of Booker T. Washington, and retraces more than forty years of his life. Washington scales the social ladder through hard manual work, a decent education and relationships with great people to the founder of one of the most important schools for South African Americans, The Tuskegee Industrial Institute. The book is Washington's traditional non-confrontational message supported by the example of his life.
